About Yuki
Yuki means courage in Japanese.
Yūki are based in Plymouth, but also work online with children, young people and adults in various ways. We work individually with children and young people (up to age 25) with a range of mental and emotional health difficulties. We offer Compassionate Mind Training to individuals and groups, and Compassion Focused Staff Support to staff teams.
At Yūki Compassion Focused Therapies and Training we understand that coming to talk to someone about tricky feelings takes a lot of courage, as does facing our difficulties and finding a path to a more peaceful mind. We believe that children and young people can flourish if they feel listened to, respected and supported to find the wisdom they possess in order to move though difficult times. The founder of Yūki, Kate, knows how brave and strong the people are who come to use therapeutic services.

Experience Kate has been a Registered Mental Health Nurse for over 10 years; initially working on inpatient wards before moving into the community where she worked for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for over six years. During that time Kate worked alongside children, young people and their families throughout their journey. Kate is committed to continuing her professional development and has completed a variety of trainings, including learning about the Neurobiology of Trauma and Attachment. Kate has completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Compassion Focused Therapy, in addition to participating in workshops on Compassion Focused Therapy and Attachment Theory. This has included being taught by the founder of CFT, Paul Gilbert. Approach Kate brings a wealth of experience from the roles she has undertaken, which mean her skills are broad and varied. She uses this experience and skill to ensure the approach she takes is tailored to the individual and works in full partnership with the young person and those close to them. Kate has a lot of experience of working with families and knows that it can be really important to work alongside them, even when this is really tricky. The main approach Kate utilises is Compassion Focused Therapy, however she also brings in knowledge of other modes of therapy relating to Attachment Theory and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). Kate is currently training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). At Yūki we believe that it is important to see the whole person rather than simply target a symptom. You can expect a thoughtful and holistic assessment process. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, difficult thoughts about yourself, strong feelings that are hard to handle, stress after a traumatic experience or you may feel like something is wrong that you just can't put your finger on. Whatever you bring to the therapy room can be worked through together. Values Kate believes that as we all experience distress at some time in our lives, any of us can find ourselves in need of a therapist to talk to. At Yūki we firmly believe in respect and dignity as being at the forefront of all care. Our aim is to empower children, young people and parents/carers by drawing out your inner wisdom and by being alongside you in the building of knowledge and skills that work for you. As a way to uphold these values and ensure a high standard of practice Kate has supervision monthly. Supervision is where an experienced practitioner is consulted about the work a therapist is doing, they may provide advice and guidance. It is confidential and your name won’t be shared. |
